While considering how to give everyone the most out of a Sonni craft kit and also reduce the amount of waste created I suddenly remembered the place cards I used at our wedding. They are so simple but they really stood out. I went with a bright floral tissue paper for the wedding boats but the navy tissue paper in the kit will work very well for some small world play with the kids.
alphabet stamps and ink(handwritten flags look great as well)
First step is to cut the tissue paper into roughly A5 size, you can use the box as a guide. Next you fold a simple origami boat, if this skill is not already in your arsenal of childhood crafting memories then check out the instructions on this lovely blog. Once it is finished cut the point from the tip of the centre of the boat (this is where the flag will go).
Cut a strip of white paper and fold it in half. Either stamp or hand write your chosen words or name. Cut the sharp tips from a cocktail stick.
Glue this paper around the tip of the cocktail stick using glue and then cut your flag into whichever shape you like. I chose the double tip. Another great variation would be to cut the flag so it looks like it’s moving in the wind.
The next part can be a little fiddly. The best way to go about it is to insert the flag pole (cocktail stick) into the hole you cut and then glue the stick to the inside of the boat from underneath at the desired angle.
It’s as simple as that! Keep an eye on the Instagram page @sonni_crafts to see variations when each kit is released.
